The management of Salcon Berhad gave away Indian Candies to all staff on 29th October 2013 to celebrate Deepavali and wished the festival of lights brightens everyone's home and heart with peace and serenity.

Innovative reuse of recycled materials in Salcon-MPSJ Green Inventor Competition 2013




























10 teams from 9 secondary schools in Klang Valley competed for the most innovative water invention made from recycled materials today in the inaugural Salcon Green Inventor Competition 2013 at Kompleks Puchong Perdana. The Salcon Green Inventor Competition 2013 is organized in collaboration with MPSJ’s Karnival Zon Bersih.




















The Salcon Green Inventor competition is part of Salcon Berhad’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in celebration of World Environmental Day 2013. The programme aims to promote awareness on the importance of recycling to preserve the environment, in addition to polishing creative minds amongst the youths to create something useful and practical using recycled materials.









 


















 “The programme serves as a platform for secondary school children to utilize their imagination and creativity to come up with a green masterpiece in the spirit of team work and at the same time, to appreciate the beauty of nature in their daily life” said Mr Yap Sui Pon, project director of Salcon Berhad.

45 students are given more than one month time to complete their water-based invention, combining their scientific skills to put together their green creations such as water filter, cleanser, water collector and many more.  The students are judged based on their creativity and practicality of creations, the use of recycle materials, and the group presentations.






 











“It is our honor to work with Salcon Berhad for the first ever Salcon-MPSJ Green Inventor Competition 2013. Besides sharing the same objectives which to promote awareness and conservation of our environment for a better future, we perceive that this programme is an added value to our Zon Bersih campaign”, said Mr Zamir, Assistant Director of Corporate Planning of MPSJ.

Salcon is delighted to get to work hand in hand with MPSJ in organizing such a successful event and looking forward to have more opportunity to organize similar activities which can benefit the community and the environment.

Salcon Train the Trainers Programme for River & Water Educational Programme


28 teachers from 7 primary schools in Selangor participated in the Salcon Train the Trainers Programme (Salcon ToT Programme) to learn how to conduct the award-winning Salcon River & Water Awareness Educational Programme at Lembah Kiara, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI).

 
The inaugural Salcon ToT Programme is an extension of the Salcon River & Water Educational Programme which is organized by Salcon Berhad in collaboration with non-governmental organisation Water Watch Penang (WWP) with the objective of increasing awareness and education of the importance of river and water amongst youths in Klang Valley via hands-on experience of river water monitoring.
 
 
The Salcon ToT programme aims to guide and train selected teachers from primary schools in the Klang Valley to conduct their own river and water educational programme. The seven schools which joined this sustainable effort are SK TTDI 2, SK Seksyen 9, SK Damansara Damai 1, SJKC Ladang Harcroft, SJKC Chen Moh, SJKT Puchong and SJKT Batu Caves. The teachers/trainers learnt about physical, chemical and biological water assessment.

Salcon signs RM518.3m deal with BEWG for disposal of China Concessions




On 12 September 2013, Salcon Berhad announced that it and its its joint venture company Salcon Water (Asia) Ltd have entered into two Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPA) with Beijing Enterprises Water Group Limited (BEWGL) for the disposal of 100% shares of six (6) water companies for a total consideration of RMB955 million (approximately RM518.3 mil).




Upon completion, the exercise will bring in total cash of RM 284 million (net of liabilities) and will contribute RM94.6 million of profit to the Group. The disposal of the Group’s China assets allows Salcon to retain a healthy balance sheet with improvements on its Earnings Per Share (EPS) from 2.21 sen to 16.9 sen, and net asset per share from RM0.80 to RM0.91.


























“We view this offer an extremely attractive proposition, and also a win win deal for both parties. With our positive view of the growth opportunities of our property development and water business in Malaysia, this is indeed a good opportunity for us to unlock the value of our investment in the PRC and allow us to focus on growing our business domestically.” says Dato Eddy Leong, Executive Director of Salcon Berhad. “This exercise will give Salcon more funds to secure good land banks and to expand further into property development.”

Salcon has received approval from shareholders to venture into property development during its EGM on 19th March 2013, in an effort to diversify its income base.

Salcon’s maiden property project features a 21-storey commercial building comprising 12 units of two-storey shop office with total net saleable area of 40,600 sq ft and 280 units of SOHO with net saleable area of 244,460 sqft in Selayang.

Fun Day away from studies for SJKC Sin Ming students at Bukit Kiara

There is a saying that “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. Salcon Berhad, through its award winning CSR programme, the Salcon River & Water Awareness Educational programme, injected some fun and play for 40 pupils and 4 teachers from SJKC Sin Ming, Puchong on 24 August 2013 (Sat).

The happy and enthusiastic faces of the primary school children aged between 10-12 years old were evident throughout the 4 hour long programme.  The children gathered at Lembah Kiara Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, a green lung in the heart of the city and conducted hands-on physical and chemical tests on the Sg Penchala river using water monitoring kits.

Madam Lee Luen Lee, teacher of SJKC Sin Ming was happy that the school was invited to join the programme. “This is a very good opportunity for the pupils to truly understand the importance of caring for our river and water. Although the theory has been taught in the classroom, they will get better understanding through this kind of hands-on programme. We believe at the end of the programme, the children have gotten the message of importance of caring for our water resources.”

Caring for Sg. Penchala, Pupils learn to monitor river health and quality

30 pupils and 3 teachers from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Yuk Chai, Petaling Jaya rolled up their trousers and got their feet wet to check and monitor the health of Sg Penchala through the Salcon River & Water Awareness Education Programme on 27 July 2013 (Sat).


















Children enjoyed fun of catching living organism from the river

The excited children, between the ages of 10 to 13 years old, were taught the knowledge of river conservation and how to define the health of the river water through its colour, smell, pH level, dissolved oxygen level and aquatic organisms by using water monitoring kits. The programme is organized by Salcon Berhad in collaboration with Water Watch Penang (WWP) and Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) at the Lembah Kiara Recreation Park, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur for the fourth consecutive year.

Laughter and excitement were evident in the students’ faces as they got to explore for themselves whilst learning water monitoring knowledge via physical, biological and chemical tests under the guidance of WWP facilitators. Besides this, a colouring activity was conducted for the children as well and their artwork was made into a button badge as a souvenir for them.

Ramadhan Month Celebration





As Salcon tradition in celebrating the month of Ramadhan, Salcon invited staffs to fast together with our Muslim colleagues on 15th July 2013 (Monday) to feel the spirit of fasting. Later that evening, on behalf of the management Mr Ooi Cheng Swee, Salcon Chief Operating Officer giving away Juadah Berbuka  to all staff for breaking fast.

Salcon wins the Prestigious Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award (AREA) for Green Leadership

Salcon through the Salcon River & Water Awareness Educational Programme, was conferred the pretigious Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award (AREA) in the Green Leadership category for its contribution towards environmental conservation awareness amongst the community.

'The Green Leadership award honours companies which recognize the impact of their business operations to the environment and which actively seek to reduce and reverse the impact,' said Lt. Gen Sudhir Sharma, one of the panel judges of AREA. 'In total, we received over 120 submissions for the various award categories from all across Southeast Asia, and only 21 submissions were selected as winners for this year's programme.'

The award recipients undergo a stringent selection process by the International Judging Panel, which picks the most outstanding enterprise leaders and gives international recognition for their achievement in promoting the ethic of Corporate Responsibility to the society. Congratulations to Stair Walk Winners!

The Stair Walk which was held in conjunction with Safety and Health Campaign month has come to an end.

We are happy to announce that we have 10 colleagues who have completed the walk with 100% attendance!! Although only 3 prizes were allocated at the start of this programme, in recognition of their healthy effort and support for this programme, each of them will win a RM100 worth of fruit hamper from MBG! Congratulations!!!

We are pleasantly surprised at the overwhelming response and the turn out rate which saw more than 50 participants in total throughout the duration of the programme. Although not all were able to walk everyday, their initiative in taking part in the activity has brought great encouragement to other colleagues.
