30 pupils and 3 teachers from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Yuk Chai, Petaling Jaya rolled up their trousers and got their feet wet to check and monitor the health of Sg Penchala through the Salcon River & Water Awareness Education Programme on 27 July 2013 (Sat).

Children enjoyed fun of catching living organism from the river

The excited children, between the ages of 10 to 13 years old, were taught the knowledge of river conservation and how to define the health of the river water through its colour, smell, pH level, dissolved oxygen level and aquatic organisms by using water monitoring kits. The programme is organized by Salcon Berhad in collaboration with Water Watch Penang (WWP) and Malaysian Water Partnership (MyWP) at the Lembah Kiara Recreation Park, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kuala Lumpur for the fourth consecutive year.

Laughter and excitement were evident in the students’ faces as they got to explore for themselves whilst learning water monitoring knowledge via physical, biological and chemical tests under the guidance of WWP facilitators. Besides this, a colouring activity was conducted for the children as well and their artwork was made into a button badge as a souvenir for them.
