Conferment of Tan Sri title to Dato’ Tee Tiam Lee

Heartiest congratulations to Salcon Berhad’s Deputy Chairman Dato' Tee Tiam Lee who was conferred the Darjah Kebesaran Panglima Setia Mahkota (PSM) with the title Tan Sri by Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in conjunction with his Royal Highness’ birthday, on 4^th June 2011.

Tan Sri Dato' Tee Tiam Lee has more than 30 years experience in insurance industry. Currently, Tan Sri Dato' Tee sits on the Board of MUI Continental Insurance Berhad. On 1 July 2005, Tan Sri Dato' Tee was appointed as Senior Advisor of Salcon Berhad.

Tan Sri Dato' Tee also participates actively in the management of Hotel Sri Hoover Sdn. Bhd and Taman Gading Sdn. Bhd., which is involveds in the hotel management and oil palm plantation business in the east coast. Tan Sri Dato' Tee is the Chairman of The Mines Residents Association and is also a Director of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Terengganu since 1995.

Metabolic Syndrome & Lifestyle Disease Talk

A Metabolic Syndrome & Lifestyle Disease Talk was presented by Mr Gew Soon Peng, a Biomedical Scientist from UPM, Malaysia. Through this talk, the employees learned how the many imbalances that contribute to the development of metabolism syndrome can affect their health.

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011

Salcon participated in the Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2011 for the second year by contributing fund to the charity homes. Ng She Ni from Finance and Accounts Department represented Salcon to run for good cause at Dataran Merdeka. She successfully completed the route of 10 km in 2 hours 9 minutes.

Salcon Badminton Tournament 2011 Results

A total of 31 registered players turned up at the SRC Badminton Tournament 2011 on 25 June 2011.  The tournament started at 9.00am and ended at 3.00pm.  Despite the challenges, players stayed focus to win the matches.  Fantastic performance and breathtaking shots that “wow” the supporters to stay put till the last battle.  Thank you to all players and supporters that have made the tournament a success!

Personalised Healthy Body Shaping & Metabolic Syndrome Talk

Ms. Samantha Mak from Healthilite Beautilite Consultation & Services was invited to share with the staff regarding metabolic syndrome, the cause of big tummy and its solution. Through the talk, the staff was educated awareness of effective know-how on slimming/losing weight and body shaping.

Sponsorship of Environmental Awareness Campaign, Vietnam

In conjunction with International Environment Day on 5 June 2011, an Environmental Awareness Campaign was organized by Tien Giang Environmental Crime Preventing Police Department and Green Environment Communication Corporation.

Salcon took its initiative to participate in the campaign where the campaign’s motto is: “For a Green Vietnam. Let’s Protect Our Environment”. Salcon sponsored six banners which were displayed at the National Highway 60 adjacent to My Tho town during the World Environment Day.

On 23 May 2011, the KETTHA Minister, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Peter Chin Fah Kui, accompanied by  KETTHA Deputy Minister Yang Berhormat Puan Noriah Kasnon, officials from Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB), officials from Suruhanjaya Pengurusan Air Negara and official for other Government Department visited the Sg. Labu Water Treatment Plant site for a working visit.

Upon arrival, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Sri Peter Chin was briefed on the work progress which was on track. He then visited the worksite accompanied by other officials and indicated that he was pleased with the overall progress of the project.

Linyi City Water Awareness Week

City Water Awareness Week's purpose is to increase the awreness on water saving


In conjunction with City Water Awareness Week scheduled from 15 May to 21 May, Linyi Salcon Water Co. Ltd participated the activity on 15 May at Linyi City Square

Theme of the City Water Awareness Week is ‘Build a Water-saving City, Improve City’s Water Ecology’  The activities included distribution of water-saving proposal, getting public’s signature, road show by manufacturers on water saving equipments etc. Via this programme, Linyi city government hopes to increase public awareness on water resources, and thus influence more people to save water, instilling go-green awareness.

A Charity Day was held by Linyi Salcon Water Co. Ltd on 13 May. This is an annual activity organized by the company since 2003 to encourage employees help the needy community. A donation box was located in front of the office for the staff to donate their contribution. Donation was led by the leaders and employees showed good response to the meaningful activity. RMB 19,440 was collected and handed over to Linyi Charity Association to help laid-off workers and poor citizens.

Salcon Blood Donation Campaign 2011

Salcon Corporate Responsibility program continued with Salcon Blood Donation Campaign which was successfully held on 6 & 7 May 2011 from 11.00am to 4.00pm at The Summit Subang Shopping Mall.  The drive was organized in collaboration with Pusat Darah Negara with The Summit Subang as the venue sponsor.

Salcon’s Blood Donation Campaign is a yearly event, aimed at helping the National Blood Bank to boost its supply for distribution to hospitals nationwide.  The objective of having this campaign is to encourage and provide opportunity for Salcon employees to be part of this meaningful program to serve the community.

This is Salcon’s second time organizing such event which was conducted over 2 days – Friday and Saturday consecutively.  A total of 154 numbers of people comprising employees and the public took part in the blood donation. From the 154 registered volunteers, 100 were eligible to donate blood resulting in 100 pints of blood collected. This represents an increase of 25 percent in collection compared to the first Salcon blood donation campaign in 2010. 

In order to encourage the employees and public to become donors, Salcon gave away our corporate mugs as a token of appreciation to all the registered volunteers for their support towards this charitable event.  Thank you for your support and donation of the most precious gift to save lives – Together, we make a difference.

Salcon Annual Dinner & Dance 2011

The Salcon Annual Dinner & Dance 2011 - the night of "You Are The Star" was a great success! Our BIG THANK YOU for your presence and support, the night was a memorable one! There were the photo board and photo shoot just like at the Grammys. The highlight of the night was definitely the Salcon Idol contest – 5 talented participants and 3 funny judges.  Who can forget the best dress male and female with their own style and fashion. The dancers and live band were unforgettable.

China Delegation Visit

Partners and business development staff from various China Joint Venture companies were invited to attend Salcon Annual Dinner which was held on 30 April 2011. The delegations were from Linyi City, Nan An City, Yizheng City and Changle County. Besides attending for the dinner, they also paid a visit to treatment plants and conducted Board Meeting in Salcon HQ. 

Loves the River with Children from orphanage homes

Orphans from 4 orphanage homes in Klang Valley, WWP team, PAAB management and Salcon team took a group photos at the river bank near Klang Gates dam.



Children from 4 orphanage homes in KlangValley had a fun and exciting day learning the importance of water and river conservation through a river awareness programme organized by Salcon Berhad together with Water Watch Penang (WWP) and Malaysia Environmental NGO (MENGO) on 16 April 2011 (Sat). 

The programme is conducted as part of Salcon’s corporate responsibility programme to raise awareness of river water protection and conservation amongst school-going children in the Klang valley. 56 children (6 – 18 years old) and 4 wardens from Rumah Sayangan, Rumah Hope and Rumah Kebajikan Karunai lllam and Rumah Kebajikan Anbu Illam participated in this programme at Klang river (nearby Klang Gate Dam). The children were taught how to conduct water samplings and carry out checks on micro-organisms found in the river to understand its eco-system.

Dato' Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman, CEO of Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) and Tan Sri Dato’ Tee Tiam Lee, Deputy Chairman of Salcon Berhad graced the River & Water Awareness & Education Programme and spent some time with the children at the river bank near Klang Gates dam.

This is the second time that Salcon is conducting such programmes in collaboration with WWP and MENGO. The first one was successfully held in last July for school children from SMK Seksyen 5, Wangsa Maju.



 

Wealth Management Talk

In order to instill the importance of personal financial planning for the employees, a Wealth Management talk was held on 7 April 2011. The talk titled "Achieving Your Financial Success via Proper Investment and Financial Management Knowledge" was given by Mr. Javern Lim, the Managing Director and Founder of VKA Wealth Planners Sdn Bhd, one of the pioneer and leader in the Financial Planning industry.

A talk on will writing was organized for the employees with the aims of increasing awareness on importance of will writing on 30 March 2011.The will writing talk was given by Mr. Chong Moh Yong, an experienced Professional Estate Planner (PEP) from Rockwills Corp Sdn Bhd with more than 11 years experience in will-writing and trust.

Salcon Bhd has secured its first industrial wastewater concession in China which is expected to generate revenue of RMB1.0 billion throughout a 30-year concession period.

Salcon Berhad’s wholly owned subsidiary, Salcon Changzhou (HK) Co Ltd, had entered into the concession agreement and an asset transfer agreement with Changzhou City Tian Ning District Diao Zhuang Street Office and Changzhou Southeast Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant on 21 March 2011..

Under the agreement, Salcon will acquire, upgrade, operate and maintain the Southeast Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant (SIWTP), which is located at Tian Ning District, Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China.

Salcon acquired SIWTP and related facilities on a transfer-operate-transfr basis for RMB60 million (approx RM27.7 million)
The upgrading works are estimated to be completed within a period of nine months (upon approval by the relevant government authorities), upon which, the treatment capacity of the plant shall be 30MLD.

Taman Sinar Harapan, Kuala Kubu Bharu Charity Drive

A Charity Drive to Taman Sinar Harapan, Kuala Kubu Bharu (TSH KKB) was organized in conjunction with the Salcon Family Day 2011 at Fraser's Hill, Pahang. TSH KKB is home to 200 severely mentally and physically disabled residents of whom 180 are bedridden. The centre provides shelter, care, rehabilitation and training including physical therapy for its residents.


The charity drive includes getting the employees involved in terms of donation in kind and cash as well as organizing a visit to the TSH KKB.  During the one week pledge for donation, the SRC team managed to collect the sum of RM2,585 in cash, adult diapers, rice, biscuits, dettol solution, milk powder and sugar. Tan Sri Dato’ Tee Tiam Lee donated RM1,500 in cash followed by Salcon HQ with RM550 and sundry items, Envitech with RM440, Seremban NRW office, Sg. Terip and Kuala Jelai Site with RM95 and sundry items.  Salcon Centrimax also donated some sundry items.

Thank you for your generous contribution, all donations were successfully handed over to the centre’s administrator on 26 February 2011. Your kindness generosity helps the less fortunate to live better!

Lion Dance in Salcon HQ to usher the Year of Rabbit

Salcon ushered the auspicious and prosperous Year of Golden Rabbit with a lion dance performance at Salcon HQ. Backed by a resounding drum performance, the twin lions, in yellow and white, kept staff at the HQ enthralled with their acrobatic moves.

Besides, the management also presented the staff with Mandarin oranges and Angpao, as a tradition to wish all the staff good luck throughout the year.

EDMS Rewards Programme

In Feb 2011, Corporate Affairs Department and MIS Department jointly organisedan EDMS Rewards Programme with the objective to encourage utilization and ensure that the system is put to good use. Participants are required to store as many documents as possible, as the more documents they store, the more gifts they can redeem!

We are pleased to see the efforts taken by the participants for the past few months. In May, Ms. Piremah, Ms. Norlaila and Ms. Noraisyah from Headquarter managed to collect 15,203 points as at March 2011 by storing 15,203 documents in the system. They chose to redeem RM200 worth of KFC voucher to reward their hard work. Keep it up and

congratulations to them!

Its roles and responsibilities are to ensure that communications between various stakeholders such as the management, employees, clients, investors and community are well maintained and enhanced to attain sustainable development.
