Innovative reuse of recycled materials in Salcon-MPSJ Green Inventor Competition 2013




























10 teams from 9 secondary schools in Klang Valley competed for the most innovative water invention made from recycled materials today in the inaugural Salcon Green Inventor Competition 2013 at Kompleks Puchong Perdana. The Salcon Green Inventor Competition 2013 is organized in collaboration with MPSJ’s Karnival Zon Bersih.




















The Salcon Green Inventor competition is part of Salcon Berhad’s Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in celebration of World Environmental Day 2013. The programme aims to promote awareness on the importance of recycling to preserve the environment, in addition to polishing creative minds amongst the youths to create something useful and practical using recycled materials.









 


















 “The programme serves as a platform for secondary school children to utilize their imagination and creativity to come up with a green masterpiece in the spirit of team work and at the same time, to appreciate the beauty of nature in their daily life” said Mr Yap Sui Pon, project director of Salcon Berhad.

45 students are given more than one month time to complete their water-based invention, combining their scientific skills to put together their green creations such as water filter, cleanser, water collector and many more.  The students are judged based on their creativity and practicality of creations, the use of recycle materials, and the group presentations.






 











“It is our honor to work with Salcon Berhad for the first ever Salcon-MPSJ Green Inventor Competition 2013. Besides sharing the same objectives which to promote awareness and conservation of our environment for a better future, we perceive that this programme is an added value to our Zon Bersih campaign”, said Mr Zamir, Assistant Director of Corporate Planning of MPSJ.

Salcon Train the Trainers Programme for River & Water Educational Programme


28 teachers from 7 primary schools in Selangor participated in the Salcon Train the Trainers Programme (Salcon ToT Programme) to learn how to conduct the award-winning Salcon River & Water Awareness Educational Programme at Lembah Kiara, Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (TTDI).

 
The inaugural Salcon ToT Programme is an extension of the Salcon River & Water Educational Programme which is organized by Salcon Berhad in collaboration with non-governmental organisation Water Watch Penang (WWP) with the objective of increasing awareness and education of the importance of river and water amongst youths in Klang Valley via hands-on experience of river water monitoring.
 
 
The Salcon ToT programme aims to guide and train selected teachers from primary schools in the Klang Valley to conduct their own river and water educational programme. The seven schools which joined this sustainable effort are SK TTDI 2, SK Seksyen 9, SK Damansara Damai 1, SJKC Ladang Harcroft, SJKC Chen Moh, SJKT Puchong and SJKT Batu Caves. The teachers/trainers learnt about physical, chemical and biological water assessment.

Salcon signs RM518.3m deal with BEWG for disposal of China Concessions




On 12 September 2013, Salcon Berhad announced that it and its its joint venture company Salcon Water (Asia) Ltd have entered into two Sale and Purchase Agreements (SPA) with Beijing Enterprises Water Group Limited (BEWGL) for the disposal of 100% shares of six (6) water companies for a total consideration of RMB955 million (approximately RM518.3 mil).




Upon completion, the exercise will bring in total cash of RM 284 million (net of liabilities) and will contribute RM94.6 million of profit to the Group. The disposal of the Group’s China assets allows Salcon to retain a healthy balance sheet with improvements on its Earnings Per Share (EPS) from 2.21 sen to 16.9 sen, and net asset per share from RM0.80 to RM0.91.


























“We view this offer an extremely attractive proposition, and also a win win deal for both parties. With our positive view of the growth opportunities of our property development and water business in Malaysia, this is indeed a good opportunity for us to unlock the value of our investment in the PRC and allow us to focus on growing our business domestically.” says Dato Eddy Leong, Executive Director of Salcon Berhad. “This exercise will give Salcon more funds to secure good land banks and to expand further into property development.”

Salcon has received approval from shareholders to venture into property development during its EGM on 19th March 2013, in an effort to diversify its income base.

Salcon’s maiden property project features a 21-storey commercial building comprising 12 units of two-storey shop office with total net saleable area of 40,600 sq ft and 280 units of SOHO with net saleable area of 244,460 sqft in Selayang.
